For
the 2009 model year, Jaguar offers three series, XJ, XF, and XK, with
many variations of each. The big news for 2009 is the all new XF,
which was introduced to replace the X-Type. There were a few high end
models added to the Jaguar lineup as well as some newly standard
features.
Jaguar XJ Series
Jaguar's
XJ is the flagship sedan, and it competes with the BMW 7 Series,
Mercedes S-Class and Audi A8. The XJ comes in XJ8, XJ8 L, Vanden Plas,
XJR, Super V8 and (new for 2009) Super V8 Portfolio models. Regular and
extended-length versions are available. In front of each front door is
a chrome gill that Jaguar calls a "power vent." They echo the slats in
the XK coupe. In back, a chrome strip spans the width of the trunk. New
for 2009: a navigation and a surround-sound system are standard across
the model lineup.
2009 XJ8
The XJ8
is the flagship of the Jaguar line and it defines motoring luxury. The
advanced monocoque alloy bodyshell carries a 4.2-liter, 300hp aluminum
V8 engine, delivering the refined power for which the XJ is renowned.
The 2009 XJ8 starts at $66,475. The 2009 XJ8L is the longer version of
the standard wheelbase XJ. It includes all of the features of the XJ8
plus a longer wheelbase, the longest length in its class, and more rear
headroom than any vehicle in its class. The 2009 XJ8L starts at
$69,975.
2009 XJ Vanden Plas
The
extended-wheelbase Vanden Plas model offers the most superb luxuries
including lambswool rugs, Peruvian boxwood inlays and optional
multimedia entertainment system. It starts at $76,850
2009 XJR
The
XJR offers a thrilling ride with the Eaton supercharged 400-hp aluminum
V8, enhanced R Performance tuned suspension, and liquid intercooling.
The 2009 XJR will start at $84,350
2009 XJ Super V8 Portfolio
The
new Super V8 Portfolio is one of the most luxurious cars in the world.
The 2009 XJ Super V8 Portfolio is created in exclusive numbers that are
carefully built to the highest levels of Jaguar craftsmanship. This
model starts at $105,000.
2009 XJ Super V8
This
particular model includes all the luxurious interior amenities of the
Vanden Plas plus the pulse-quickening performance attributes of the
XJR. Furthermore, Multimedia Entertainment and premium sound are
standard. The XJ Super V8 also include a four-zone Climate Control,
manually adjustable side window sunblinds, a rear multimedia
entertainment system, featuring 6.5-in. monitors in the back of the
front seat head restraints and DVD player, and a six-way
power-adjustable rear bench seat. The 2009 XJ Super V8 starts at
$94,850.
Jaguar XF Series
Jaguar's all-new XF sports sedan hits the market in the spring of 2008
as the replacement for the slow selling S-Type. It's Jaguar's latest
creation since the exquisite redesign of the XK coupe and convertible.
T
he styling of the XF is unlike no other Jaguar you will recall. For a
sedan, its designs aspire to your senses, as does a coupe. Unlike
Jaguar's previous design philosophy, the team stayed away from using
too much input from the past. Today's sports sedans feature intense
lines and sophisticated shapes. Jaguar needed to be in the same playing
field; they will instill the XF with high level qualities. For example,
the only two engine selections will be either the 4.2-liter naturally
aspirated V8 with 300-horsepower or the supercharged V8 with
420-horsepower. In the United States, Jaguar will not offer a V6 or
cloth interior as they did in the S-Type. They will also not offer a
six-speed manual transmission. And the antiquated J-gate shifter
found on Jaguar sedans has finally been replaced. The new XF offers the JaguarDrive Selector, a rotary dial which operates the gears on the
XF's six-speed automatic transmission. The selector rises once the
ignition is engaged. Jaguar Sequential Shift allows the transmission
to be manually controlled via steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.
2009 XF Luxury
With
all of the features on the XF, it really sets the stage for the
luxurious, high-quality look of the cabin. Standard on the XF is a V8
with 300hp and 310 lb-ft torque, Jaguar Sequential ShiftTM with
steering wheel mounted paddle, iPod® integration and Bluetooth®
7 inch Touch-screen, Phosphor Blue Halo Illumination JaguarSenseTM,
Winter Mode Keyless Start (Jaguar SmartKey System),TM 18" Wheels
Standard, Bond Grain Leather seating surfaces, wood veneers and
aluminum dash appointments. The 2009 XF Luxury starts at $49,975.
2009 XF Premium Luxury
This
model takes luxury one step further. The lines of the cabin are clean
and pure, the materials are familiar. But they have a very modern
flavor from soft-grain leathers to real wood veneers used with a bold
contemporary spin. The 2009 XF Premium Luxury starts at $55,975.
2009 XF Supercharged
The
XF's V8 engines combine effortless performance, and unrivaled
character. The 6-speed automatic transmission is the best Jaguar has
ever had. The Jaguar Sequential ShiftTM manual gearchange adds a whole
new level of functionality. This combination already proven in the
XK produces excellent powertrains for a very sporting Jaguar. The 2009
XF Supercharged starts at 64,475.
Jaguar XK Series
The
2009 Jaguar XK is a high-end luxury sports car that drives as well as
it looks. The XK comes as a coupe or convertible. There's a
higher-performance XKR version and an XKR Portfolio edition that's only
available in limited numbers. Competitors include the Cadillac XLR and
Mercedes-Benz SLK. The 2009 XK now features a standard 525-watt audio
system with a USB input and Sirius Satellite Radio. The XK's interior
isn't the roomiest in
its class, though its front-seat legroom is far better than average and
its dimensions are decent for adults. In the backseat there's no
legroom at all unless the front occupants slide forward and the seat
cushions have oddly shaped contours. The XK can accelerate from zero
to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of
155 mph. Highlights of the 2009 XK include flowing lines, a
lightweight aluminum body, dramatic styling, modern technology and pure
luxury. The 2009 XK convertible features a refined convertible top
with automatic deployment in less than 20 seconds, and a
Power-latching, self-stowing top with three layers including
Thinsulate lined and Rakona headliner. The convertible also drives
with a Rollover Protection System. The 2009 XK Coupe starts at $77,975
and the 2009 XK Convertible starts at $83975. Looking for more specifications on this Jaguar model? Read another 2009 Jaguar XK review.
2009 Jaguar XKR
Jaguar's
XKR builds upon the XK with a 420-hp, supercharged version of the
4.2-liter V-8. There's also a modified suspension that firms up the
ride but sharpens the handling. Other changes include a modified
exterior with a mesh grille, modified fog lights, larger wheels, quad
exhaust and dual hood louvers. A six-speed automatic transmission is
standard, and Jaguar says the XKR accelerates from zero to 60 mph in
4.9 seconds (5.0 seconds for the convertible). The XKR comes in Coupe,
Convertible, and Portfolio models. The XKR Coupe includes
aluminum-finish side window surround, trunk plinth and power side
vents, body-colored hood louvers, quad tailpipes with bright finishers,
Adaptive Front Lighting, aluminum interior trim, and rich, high-gloss
Burl Walnut or satin-finish American Walnut interior trim. The 2009
Coupe starts at $88,475. The XKR convertible features include a
refined convertible top with automatic deployment in under 20 seconds
and a 420-horsepower, the supercharged 4.2-liter V8 engine and a
Rollover Protection System. The 2009 XKR Portfolio, in either coupe or
convertible form, is an aggressive yet luxurious vehicle. The limited
Portfolio edition provides true beauty with exclusive touches of
craftsmanship and equipment. Some features of the XKR Portfolio are an
exclusive Shadow Grey Metallic paint, polished aluminum power side
vents, 20 in 15-spoke Selena-Styled Wheels with Jaguar Heritage badge,
16-way soft grain leather trimmed front driver and passenger seats with
adjustable bolsters, leather instrument panel and leather door panel
inserts, and special Leather-edged Portfolio front floor mats Portfolio
tread plates. For more info on this model, read another review of the 2009 Jaguar XKR.
