2011 Jaguar XF

"I had an oil change on my 911 C4 within the last month! It was a very good experience. During the visit I was able to relax in the lounge and even go out and talk with the tech, look under the car and ask questions. I called to schedule this appoint first thing in the morning and was able to get in and out in about 1 ½ hours which was great." 10/23/08

The 2011 Jaguar XF is great looking, smooth and comfortable, with the features buyers expect in this class, and then some. The XF is smooth, fast, and responsive, but also quiet and comfortable. Its six-speed automatic transmission might be the best in any luxury car anywhere, and contributes considerably to the enjoyable driving experience. Perhaps best of all, the XF has lots of those subtle little characteristics that some consumers might call soul. Furthermore, the 2011 XF accelerates quicker and handles as well or better than some of the best cars in its class, including the BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, and Lexus GS. The XF's interior is both gorgeous and charming, and less confusing or annoying than some of its competitors. The XF offers a wide choice of four powerful V8 engines, and all of them deliver excellent mileage for cars with this performance. The least expensive V8 model is priced the same or less than some comparably equipped, six-cylinder competitors. The XF comes in Luxury and Premium Luxury trim levels, as well as the XF Supercharged. There's also a high-performance XFR version.  Around corners, the XF has an excellent grip. Steering is precise, and the brakes are strong. The XFR has better grip and stability on the roads.

Powering the Jaguar XF

The Jaguar's classing V8 engine is available in four choices on this model: the 4.2-liter 300 horsepower; the 5.0-liter, 385 horsepower V8; the 5.0-liter, 470 horsepower supercharged V8; and the 5.0-liter, 510 horsepower supercharged V8. When the driver sits down the start button on the center console pulses red. Press it and, as the V8 starts up, cutouts in the aluminum dash panel rotate to expose four vents. At the same time, a milled aluminum shift dial rises out of the console, ready to rotate three clicks for Drive or four if the driver prefers to shift manually with paddles on the steering column. Jaguar says the regular V8 version sprints to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, while the supercharged model - with the same engine as the current XKR - takes just 5.1 seconds. The XF is available with 18, 19 or 20-inch wheels; the Supercharged being the only car in its class to have 20-inch wheels as standard.

2011 Jaguar XF Design

Distinctive characteristics include a sculpted hood and prominent aluminum trim surrounding the side windows. The XF has front fender vents similar to the XK's. Around back are high-mounted LED taillights that emulate an Aston Martin. Where the Jaguar has always made high marks, besides its notable acceleration, is in its sleek styling. Jaguars are good-looking cars, and this model is no exception: clean lines without that 'boxy' feel, and a smooth, aerodynamic shape. The 2011 model has loads of standard features, such as a sunroof, rear parking sensors, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. You can also opt for upgraded features such as a rearview camera and front parking sensors.

Inside the 2011 XF

The interior combines traditional cues with contemporary touches, like a rotary knob in the center console that serves as a gear selector. With its continued dedication to ease of use, Jaguar does not use this knob as a multifunction controller like the German and some Japanese automakers do. Like the XK, the XF's in-dash LCD is a touch-screen. When the engine is started, the JaguarDrive Selector knob rises out of the console, and closed air-conditioning vents rotate to the open position. The XF also uses proximity sensors in place of switches or handles for the reading lights and glove compartment lid - a wave of the hand does the trick. The Portfolio trim level features contrast leather-trim stitching, a suede-like cloth headliner, unique trim pieces and deep-pile floormats with contrasting trim and embroidered logos. The interior of the Jaguar is no less opulent. Standard luxury items include a two-zone climate control, keyless ignition, and a Bluetooth and voice-activated navigation system. A 17.7 cubic foot trunk is larger than in most models of its class. Options for the Jaguar XF include the electric rear window sunblind; heated leather steering wheel; the Bowers & Wilkins Surround Sound system plus HD Radio; and the Vision Package, which includes rear parking aid with camera, front park assist and a Blind Spot Monitor. The Premium level is available with those same options, with the exception of the Vision Package, which is included as standard. Adaptive Cruise Control with Emergency Brake Assist, which controls both throttle and brakes to help maintain a constant time gap to the vehicle in front, is optional on Premium, Premium with Portfolio, and Supercharged models.

'11 Jaguar XF Lineup

The 2011 XF gets standard bond-grain leather seats, there is satin-finish walnut and aluminum trim, a 320-watt, eight-speaker stereo and 18-inch alloy wheels. The standard-equipment list is extensive and includes everything you would expect in a Jaguar, including rear park assist, passive keyless entry and start and a power glass sunroof.

The XF Premium standard-equipment list adds a GPS navigation system, soft-grain leather on the seats, dash and door panels, three-stage heated front seats and 19-inch wheels, among other things. The XF Premium is available with the luxurious Portfolio package, which adds 16-way actively ventilated heated and cooled front seats, leather seatback map pockets, Suedecloth premium headliner, contrast-color twin-needle stitching on the door top-rolls and instrument panel, Figured Ebony veneer, and premium carpet mats with contrast edge binding and embroidered Jaguar logos. On the outside the Portfolio package adds 20-inch Senta alloy wheels.

The XF Supercharged includes all the features of the other models and rides on 20-inch Selena alloy wheels.

The XFR includes everything; the only optional choice is the deletion of the Adaptive Cruise Control with Emergency Brake Assist.

Conclusions

For 2011 XF details, pricing, and more, visit the official Jaguar XF site!  The Jaguar XF, which first debuted in 2009 as an all new model, rides on a stiff new structure that shares some suspension components with the sporty XK coupe and convertible. The car's exterior shape takes inspiration from many historic Jaguar design cues and combines them with the current enthusiasm for sedans styled to have a coupelike roof line. The result has been somewhat controversial, but also very impressive. In the grand scheme of things, this statement is perhaps not of extraordinary significance. But for Jaguar, whose past 10 years have been awash in slowing sales and diminishing consumer enthusiasm, the XF is a savior of sorts. Sporting standard V8 power and a blending of tradition with modern style and technology, it's one of the most interesting Jaguars to come out in a long while.
